Dear editor,
Contrary to seemingly popular belief, bicycles are allowed on local roadways, whether they have a bike lane or not.
And Munson Highway is included in allowable roads, even as one (recent Speak Out caller) seems to think otherwise, calling the road a “highway,” not a street. They then berate the bicyclists as being rude and causing hazards by slowing or inconveniencing the motorists.
Living a healthy lifestyle is tough — it takes work — and the riders trying, like me, to live that way, their rides take them all over the county; on multiple roads like Munson Highway. And, believe me, most do not want to tangle with an automobile.
Maybe it is time we go back and read the rules of the road so that there is no misunderstanding as to what is allowed and what is not.
As for me, I quit riding the roads a long time ago (have a mountain bike) because of close calls with motorists that think it is funny to squeeze a rider off the road.
Three feet is the minimum distance between you and a cyclist — state law!
