Milton-Pace Relay For Life set May 14

Santa Rosa County Commissioner Don Salter, with Christie Reid of the Milton-Pace Relay For Life, presents a proclamation recognizing this weekend’s event.

MILTON — The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of Milton-Pace is set for May 14 on Pensacola State College’s Milton Campus.

The event begins at 11 a.m. on the PSC outdoor track and will end at 10 p.m. in the same place.

A reception honoring all survivors and their caregivers will precede opening ceremonies. The survivor ceremony begins at 11 a.m. and the luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m. under the main tent.

Relay For Life opens as cancer survivors of all ages walk around the track for the first lap. A festive atmosphere develops as teams join the American Cancer Society’s efforts to help people get well, stay well, fight back and find cures.

Highlighting the evening is the 8:30 p.m. luminaria service, a candlelight vigil held at nightfall to honor survivors and to remember those lost to cancer.

“Relay For Life is a great opportunity to come together and create a world with less cancer and more birthdays,” said Rocky Leber, event lead for Milton-Pace Relay For Life. “It provides us with a way to celebrate and honor cancer survivors, remember those lost to the disease and fight back with the shared belief that cancer will be one day be eliminated.”
