Pace man, accused of killing his mother, held on $1.2 mil bond

MILTON — Restrained by straps in a rolling chair, Christopher Lynch — who is charged with killing his mother on Mother’s Day — learned his bond amount Monday: $1.2 million.

The 38-year-old Pace resident was also charged with three counts of battery on officers and one count of resisting arrest.

Lynch’s next court appearance will be June 2.

The first-appearance hearing took place by video between Judge Robert Hilliard and state attorneys at the Santa Rosa County Courthouse, and Lynch with his attorneys at the jail. Lynch was restrained, though he didn’t struggle. He occasionally yelled, but did answer “Yes, your honor,” when Hilliard asked him questions.

Attorney James Owens spoke for Lynch at the hearing, though he said it was on a limited appearance, as he was defending Lynch on a previous criminal charge for battery.

Hilliard asked Lynch if he wanted to be represented by the public defender, to which Lynch replied, “Yes, your honor.”

Discussing Lynch’s bond, prosecuting attorney, Trey Myers said Lynch has “shown a pattern of escalation in violence.”

Myers said Lynch was out on bond at the time of the incident.

An attorney for Lynch asked Hilliard to “set a reasonable bond.”

She said she believed Lynch was prescribed lithium but may have been off his medication for an unknown number of days.
