The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office reports Ronica Jane Hitt, previously reported as missing and endangered, has been located by authorities in El Paso, Texas.
Hitt was located last night around 10:30 p.m. by the Texas Department of Public Safety, according to a SRSO press release.
On Monday, Hitt sent several threatening text messages to a family member from her cell phone claiming to be someone else, according to the SRSO.
The text messages included “Have fun finding ur daughter alive”, “Hope you know she will die that’s a promise” and “If I can’t have her, no one can.”
There were also indications her body was placed into the trunk of a vehicle.
Attempts to call Hitt’s cell phone, among other investigative resources, were met with negative results, according to the press release.
The sheriff’s office began an extensive search for Hitt and her husband, Caleb Phillips. Resources included several state and federal agencies from Florida through Texas.
Due to the seriousness of the allegations, a felony traffic stop was initiated in El Paso where the occupants were taken out of the vehicle at gunpoint.
During a roadside interview, Hitt admitted to intentionally sending the threatening messages to her mother when in actuality, she was unharmed, according to SRSO.
At this time, investigators are reviewing this case for possible charges from both state and or federal level.
Florida Statute states “Written threats to kill or to do bodily injury to someone is a second-degree felony.”
