SPEAK OUT: Funding for church buildings — really?!; courthouse concerns

MILTON — Here are the latest calls we received on Santa Rosa County and Milton area issues.

TRAFFIC RELIEF IN PACE

This is Jesse in Pace. I was just thinking that Pace is getting so crowded — so many people.

West Spencer Field’s getting so congested, and they are fixing to build a new Baptist place over here on (Highway) 90 and Chumuckla Highway.

Why don’t they cut that road through Benny Russell, West Spencer Field Road, Chumuckla Highway, like they started to years ago?

I would like the highway that way, and it would help with some of the traffic flow.

CHURCH RENOVATIONS WITH STATE FUNDS?

Hello, I would like to call in about what I just read in the paper. Someone please explain why state funds for Santa Rosa projects are being spent for Mount Pilgrim African Missionary Church renovations for $60,000 and St. Mary Episcopal Church window replacement for $13,245.

How can you possibly explain this as Santa Rosa County expenses? These are private property expenses that should be paid for privately.

The county just seems to do whatever they please with county money. This should go to schools or bathrooms at Russell Harbor Park.

COURTHOUSE IN THE MUD

Yeah, this is Jim from Milton. On Wednesday, April 13, I had the opportunity to drive behind the courthouse during the rain. I am not a hydrologist, but from a common-sense observation, the people planning to build a new courthouse in this area are planning to build in a large mud puddle.

KUDOS FOR TONY THE CRITIC

Yes, this is Harold, retired military. A kudos for Tony the critic. I believe he is so right, and everyone should read the comments he had in Saturday’s paper. Thank you.
