TALLAHASSEE — Rep. Mike Hill (R-Pensacola Beach) has earned an A grade from the Foundation for Florida’s Future on its 2016 Education Report Card.

The high mark follows the lawmaker’s actions this year to improve the quality of education in the Sunshine State through support for student-centered policies, a media release stated.

“We are grateful for Representative Hill’s support of student-centered policies,” said Patricia Levesque, aFloridaPromise’s executive director. “With his support, students scored several victories this legislative session, and Florida is keeping the promise of a quality education for every Sunshine State student.”

“I truly believe that education is the foundation for tomorrow’s future,” Hill said. “I will continue to support sound and principled legislation that will benefit our students and educators, ensuring the opportunity to a high-quality education in our great state.”

Florida’s Education Report Card measures reforms based on these core principles:

●Data-driven accountability

●Digital learning

●Effective teachers and leaders

●Outcome-based funding

●Rigorous academic standards

●School choice and measuring of what matters

Grades are based on legislators’ voting records and demonstrations of leadership. House and Senate voting records are calculated in a ratio of favorable votes cast for student-centered policies out of the total opportunities to vote on those policies.

Grading lawmakers on a scale of A-F, just like students and schools, provides a clear assessment for the public, a media release stated.
