5 things to do this weekend in Santa Rosa County

The Tough Mudder obstacle course is making it's way back to the Gulf Coast this weekend offering more challenges to this year's participants.

  1. ENJOY AN ANNUAL TRADITION. Milton’s Scratch Ankle Festival is 4 to 9 p.m. Friday on North Willing Street. The event includes music, games, food and nonprofit organization fundraiser. Contact events coordinator Kyle Kemp, 983-5466 or kyle.kemp@ci.milton.fl.us, for more information.

2. SMELL THE FLOWERS. The Spring Festival of Flowers, hosted by the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences extension office and Pensacola State College’s Milton campus, is noon to 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at PSC’s Milton campus, 5988 U.S. Highway 90, in building 4900. The event features plant vendors along with crafts and yard art. It’s free to attend. 

3. EYE LIVESTOCK AND CAR SHOWS. The Santa Rosa County Fair begins 9 a.m. Saturday at the June Ates Arena with a cattle show and continues throughout the day at 8604 Bobby Brown Road. The pig show begins at 1 p.m. An auction will follow the livestock show around 7 p.m. Admission costs include $3 parking and $5 at the gate, according to the event’s website. The fair’s final day will feature a car show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with registration from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.  Registration is $35 general entry, or $25 for military. Prizes will be awarded during a 50-50 drawing, and there will be a ‘Best of Show’ contest along with other categorical medals.

4. LISTEN TO LIVE MUSIC. Bands on the Blackwater’s spring concert series kicks off this Friday with Oliver Twist, starting at 7 p.m. on South Willing Street. See the city of Milton website,  ci.milton.fl.us, for a complete lineup.

5. CHALLENGE? ON. Up for a challenge? Tough Mudder Gulf Coast’s endurance obstacle course is Saturday and Sunday at the Ates Ranch, 6110 Jeff Ates Road in Milton. A 10- to 12-mile obstacle course is expected to present new challenges for participants. The event also will feature a mini obstacle course for children ages 7 to 12.
