Milton resident Godfrey Fagot faces six felony charges after assaulting at least five people, among them two deputies, while apparently under the influence of his daily fifth of vodka.
The rampage began when Fagot grabbed a kitchen knife and threatened several people with it at a north county residence, according to a report filed by the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office.
He punched two there and threatened to kill the male resident if he didn’t “take him to his desired location,” the report said.
The victim was again threatened with death if he failed to take Fagot to see his “crack dealer” the report said. Finally, Fagot, 45, decided he’d drive the van, the report said, and took off with it.
He left the man he’d held at knife point behind, allowing him the chance to call law enforcement to report the vehicle theft.
Deputies found Fagot driving the van on U.S. Highway 90 and initiated a pursuit “which traveled through several residential streets,” the report said.
Fagot managed to turn the van around and drive toward the patrol car driven by Deputy James Miller, it said. This caused Miller to run into a tree in an effort to evade collision.
Fagot also drove toward another deputy, the report said, “putting him at fear for his safety.”
Fagot was detained when he ran into a tree. The deputy who took him into custody detected an odor of alcohol coming from him, the report said.
Though he declined to speak to deputies, Fagot, who was treated for injuries sustained in his wreck, did tell a nurse “he drank a fifth of vodka every day,” the report said.
Fagot was charged with armed carjacking, motor vehicle theft, assault on a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, battery and fleeing and eluding.
He’s being held on a $184,500 bond at the Santa Rosa County Jail, a Sheriff’s Office news release said.
