Four sentenced in credit union robbery

Four men were sentenced Friday in connection to breaking into Eglin Federal Credit Union on Highway 98 in Navarre and a string of Escambia County burglaries.

According to the State Attorney’s Office press release, Johnnie Lee, 56, was sentenced to life in prison on charges of burglary causing more than $1,000 in damage to a structure, criminal mischief causing more than $1,000 damage and fleeing to elude law enforcement officer.

Noral Scott, 54, was sentenced to 50 years state prison on charges of two counts of burglary causing more than $1,000 damage to a structure, conspiracy to commit burglary, possession of burglary tools and resisting arrest without violence.

Markett Simpkins, 45, was sentenced to 25 years in state prison on burglary charges.

Donald Robinson, no age available, was sentenced to 10 years in state prison on burglary charges.

On Nov. 24, 2014, officers from the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office and Pensacola Police Department were conducting surveillance on the four after a string of burglaries that involved breaking into safes and ATM units, the State Attorney’s Office said.

Investigators said the surveillance led officers to the Eglin Federal Credit Union ATM located in the 8500 block of Navarre Parkway in the Sound-view Plaza Shopping Center and saw Scott, Simpkins, and Robinson entering the building while Lee drove around as a lookout.

Both Lee and Scott have extensive criminal histories. Lee has five prior burglary convictions among his history dating back to 1979 while Scott was convicted of second degree murder in 1980.

Both are charged in several burglaries in Santa Rosa County, which are scheduled for trail on April 11, the State Attorney’s Office said.
