Locklin Tech Students Compete in Region 1 Skills USA Competition

Alex Hamid took first place in the Electrical Construction Wiring /Post Secondary category of the recent Skills USA competition.

Sixty-three students from Locklin Technical Center took part in the Region 1 Skills USA Competition on February 23rd & 24th. These Santa  Rosa County School District students are enrolled in technical programs for welding, automotive service, computer systems & information technology, commercial foods & culinary arts, electricity/electrician, air-conditioning, refrigeration & heating technology, pharmacy tech, and practical nursing. During the two day event, competitions including comprehension-based exams, as well as hands-on skill assessments, were held at Locklin Tech, George-Stone Technical Center, Pensacola State College Main Campus, and Haney Technical Center in Panama City. Both high school and adult students throughout Region 1 tested knowledge and skills learned in their respective program areas in an effort to qualify for the State Competition which will be held in Lakeland April 24th – April 27th.

Thirty-eight Locklin Tech students exhibited outstanding performances with 16 students earning 1st place awards, 14 students winning 2nd place awards, and eight students taking 3rd place awards in the following program areas:

Skills USA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry leaders working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. In addition, the organization provides quality education experiences for students in leadership, teamwork, citizenship and character development. Skills USA advisors and CTE instructors are trained to deliver high quality technical employability and academic skills to all students. All 1st and 2nd place winners will go on to compete in the State Skills USA Competition.
