Milton Police Chief recognizes integral staff

Milton Police Chief Greg Brand, center-left, recently recognized staff members who have been integral to the operations of the City of Milton’s Police Department. From the left are Captain David Cox, Administrative Assistant Debra Peters and Captain Tony Tindell.

As Greg Brand’s tenure as Milton Police Chief comes to a close, Brand recognized staff vital to the department, including Captain David Cox, Captain Tony Tindell and Administrative Assistant Debra Peters.

“I have been able to entrust them with a great deal of internal day-to-day operations, which enables me to pay more attention to the perception of the department in the community and city hall,” Brand said. “That is why before I left, I wanted to make sure they are recognized for that.”

After serving nearly 14 years as the head of the Milton Police Department, Chief Brand opted to retire at the end of this month.

Brand praised Peters with how she handles departmental needs, including ordering needed equipment, from the uniforms the officers wear to placing new tires on a MPD police patrol vehicle. Brand also commended Peters for always being upfront and honest with him.

“Ever since I have been here, I have been able to trust her to be perfectly candid with me,” Brand said. “Sometimes it’s to the point of where I can call her my conscience.”

The same notion could be said for both Captains Tindell and Cox, Brand said.

“We have had heated discussions on occasion over issues in the department and I would not have had it any other way,” he said. “I put them in their position because they have their own experiences and I had mine. Sometimes those different experiences have created a different outlook on something and if we don’t heat things up like that and hear each other’s viewpoints, then we probably are not doing the best thing we could be doing.”

Captain Cox handles the administrative side of the department, which includes overseeing the MPD computer systems and property management. Captain Tindell oversees the operations side, including patrol and investigations.
