Varsity basketball: SRCA Eagles win PCC regionals again

Coach Stephen Peoples and the Santa Rosa Christian Academy Eagles took the Panhandle Christian Conference Eastern Region trophy for the second year in a row.

For the second year in a row, the Santa Rosa Christian Academy Eagles boys varsity basketball team won the East Regional tournament. The Eagles defeated the Emmanuel Christian School Warriors 44 to 58.

Before the game, SRCA Coach Stephen Peoples said he was pretty confident in his team. "If we play the defense we have been playing all year, then we should win." He praised the dexterity of #25, Jon Brainard and his brother, Brian Brainard, #14. "Brian is the energy of our team." Peoples' confidence would turn out to be well placed.

Jon put the first points on the board for either team, a 3-pointer right at the start of the game. He would go on to score the most for the Eagles recording 20 points. At the end of the game, Brian earned the MVP award. He scored 15. Rounding out the scoreboard, James Adams (#33) and Michael Whitney (#20) both put 11 up. Miguel Janolo, #1, had a bucket as well.

The Eagles go on to the Panhandle Christian Conference final four next weekend, February 12 and 13. They'll first go up against the Central Christian School Saints out of Robertsdale, Alabama.
