Update: Identity released of body found in Milton

Investigators with the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office are investigating a possible homicide after a body was found near the corner of Palomino drive and Morgan Road near Milton.

Update as of 4:11 p.m.:

A Milton woman was found dead in a home on Palomino Street early Wednesday after someone placed an anonymous 911 call around 7 a.m.

The call was likely made from a track phone, which cannot be traced, Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Bob Johnson said.

The initial call was for a medical emergency, but deputies discovered the body of a woman with “trauma to the head.” She was identified as 29-year-old Brandy Christine Maples.

“She was shot to death,” Johnson said.

Gunshots were re-ported in the neighbor-hood around midnight but might not be connected to Maples’ death.

“We do not feel that the two incidents are related at this time,” Johnson said.

Neighbors expressed concern as they woke up to police vehicles lining their street Wednesday morning.

“This is a little too close to home,” said Jason Boyd. “There are kids usually all over the place (around the neighborhood).”

Boyd and his wife, who have lived in a mobile home unit on Palomino Drive for the past year, said they often hear the sound of gun shots within the general area of the neighborhood.

Maples’ death is being investigated as an active homicide.
