The Escambia and Santa Rosa Republican Executive Committees, along with Congress of Racial Equality, or CORE, are combining efforts in present a two-day event during the third weekend in January. On January 15th, the organizations will host the Frederick Douglass-Booker T. Washington Dinner featuring former GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain as the keynote speaker among other special guests at the New World Landing.
On the following day, an ‘All Lives Matter’ Unity March and Rally will also take place in downtown Pensacola. Both events will feature guest speakers including state representative Mike Hill, former Lt. Governor Jennifer Carroll, CORE representatives Niger Innis and Thuy Lowe among others.
This will be the first time the three organizations have collaborated for such an event, according to Sam Mullins, the chairman of the SRC Republican Party.
“The whole thing is an outreach to faith-based voters promoting our values,” Mullins said. “It’s a fundraiser as well as helping us get the word out about this upcoming election.”
Part of the message is ‘All Lives Matter’ as the conservative response to the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement, which began in 2012 following the death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. Mullins said the principals of ‘all lives matter,’ include police and unborn lives while promoting unity.
The ‘All Lives Matter’ Unity march and rally will begin at 9 a.m. at the Martin Luther King Jr.Plaza on Palafox Street while moving to the old courthouse building at 300 South Palafox Street where the rally will be held at the building’s footsteps at 9:45 a.m. The march will then conclude by traveling to the PensacolaVeteransMemorial Park for a wreath laying ceremony.
