One dead in Santa Rosa I-10 crash (REPORT)

A 25-year-old Oregon man died early Tuesday morning after crashing his car into a disabled semi-truck on Interstate 10.

According to a report from Florida Highway Patrol, Robert Cody Nelson, of Eugene, Oregon, was traveling eastbound in a 2000 Honda Accord on I-10 near mile marker 21 in Santa Rosa County at about 1:10 a.m. Tuesday when he collided with the rear of a trailer being towed by a semi.

The disabled semi truck, driven by Elmis Alfredo Castro Granados of Miami, was stopped on the interstate partially blocking the outside lane of the eastbound lanes when Nelson collided with the truck. After impact, both vehicles came to a final rest on the outside, eastbound lane.

Nelson was pronounced dead one the scene. Granados had no injuries. Neither driver was wearing a seatbelt.

The crash caused an estimated $1,000 damage to Granados’ semi-truck. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, according to the FHP report.

Charges are pending further investigation by FHP.
