Investigators with the Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office believe recently discovered human remains found in a wooded area near Blue Barnes Road in Santa Rosa County are those belonging to a missing Navarre woman, according to a SRSO press release.
On Thursday, deputies responded to a call in which a resident had came across the remains while hunting in the wooded area.
While a forensic examination will be conducted by the medical examiner’s office in order to identify the remains including the cause of death, investigators believe the remains could be those of a Lisa Jacobs Thornton of Navarre.
Thornton was reported missing in August, when she reportedly left her cell phone and other personal items including a list of medications at her residence. At the time Thornton was reported missing, deputies found her vehicle abandoned along Interstate 10 which is in close proximity of the location where the remains were found, according to the press release.
“There was circumstantial evidence located near the remains which leads us to believe the remains are of the missing woman,” the press release stated. “Lisa Thornton was reported missing and endangered when she left her home in August. There were indication that she may have been suicidal.”
