In the Monday night Panhandle Christian Conference girls basketball competition, the West Florida Baptist Academy Lady Conquerors defeated the Calvary Christian Patriots in Fort Walton 38-23.
Early foul trouble and aggressive Patriot defense stymied the Conqueror offense, holding them to a season low 38 points. The Patriots' defense was successful in limiting seniors Havii Berry to 7 points and Ashtyn Kaunitz to 10 points. The Conquerors relied on freshman Maddie Whiting and she responded with a season high 14 points, including 4 for 6 from the free throw line.
Conqueror Head Coach Darrin Johnson said, "Our seniors struggled to find their shot tonight. That's the way it is sometimes. They gave the ball up, though, made some passes and challenged Whiting. She came through."
The Conqueror defense allowed their lowest points scored this year as well, holding the Patriots to quarter scores of 4, 8, 5, and 6. Amanda Burkhart led the Patriots with 13 points.
