Milton man ejected in Mid-Bay crash

BLUEWATERBAY — A Milton man was seriously injured this week after he struck the guardrail near the Mid-Bay Bridge toll plaza and was thrown from his motorcycle.

Roger Lynn Bibbee, 65, of Milton, was driving south on State Road 293 at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

After Bibbee drove over the overpass and entered the curve to the left, the glare from the sun affected his vision and he misjudged the distance to the guardrail, according to a media release from the Florida Highway Patrol.

Bibbee drove onto the western shoulder of the road and the right side of his 2003 Honda Shadow struck the guardrail, throwing him from the motorcycle. His Honda Shadow continued to travel south without him on it until the front wheel of the motorcycle struck the curb and crashed onto its right side before coming to rest in the grass to the west of the roadway.

Bibbee was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. He was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola with serious injuries. His motorcycle sustained an estimated $2,000 worth of damage.

FHP has determined that alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
