Rifles reported through the woods after calls of “Pull!” during Gulf Power’s Annual Clay Shoot for America’s Heroes Thursday. The all-day event supports regional organizations providing for direct needs of active-duty and retired military service members and their families across Northwest Florida.
Proceeds will benefit Building Homes for Heroes, Special Operations Warrior Foundation and the University of West Florida’s Military & VeteransResourceCenter. Last year, more than $63,000 was awarded to local organizations that support military families, according to Marcus Mitchell, Gulf Power in Corporate Communications.
Stan Connally, Gulf Power president and CEO said, “These organizations were selected this year because of the vital support they provide to our military veterans. Our employees are proud to support groups that help our military friends and their families, and our hope is this event helps these groups extend their efforts even further."
Connally said he shoots recreationally with his son. He took part directly at the mulligan booth, where shooters could pay a fee, let Connally shoot, and trade their score for his if his was better.
The event featured two start times, one at 8 a.m. and another at 1 p.m., a barbecued Boston butt for noon lunch, and a silent auction throughout the day. PowerSource, Alabama Power, and GE employees took part in the competition.
