Fresh air and artwork go hand in hand during the local Plein Air Pain Out event on Saturday, October 10.
Plein Air Paint Out is coming next month to the Bagdad and Milton areas. The event is structured where artists set up a work space anywhere in Milton or Bagdad and paint outside. According to local artist Jean Schuler, this is the 5th year of the popular event.
“It’s exciting to be outdoors painting,” said Schuler. “It’s challenging and inspiring and fast paced. It’s hung and judged all in one day.”
Sally Miller, this year’s event organizer said Plein Air is a special time to see artists create fresh works of art. She said this year is has a different component. There is a special vote for event sponsors called a community favorite. “Sponsors of the event will judge their favorite for a new award,” she said. “What’s exciting is some of these artists will be famous some day. At the end of the day, people can walk into the gallery and see beautiful pieces of art lining the walls, created just that day,” said Miller.
Registration is now open. On Saturday, October 10 the gallery will be open all morning for those choosing not to paint all day. Painting must end at 1:30 p.m. and artists are to frame and submit to the gallery by 2 p.m. for judging. Up to two paintings can be submitted. The fee for participating is $35 for adults, $30 for Santa Rosa Arts and Culture Foundation members and $25 for students and youth. Youth participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Registration fees are non-refundable after October 17.
A reception will be held at the gallery at 3:30 p.m. At that time prizes will be awarded. The gallery will display the work from October 10th through November 13th.
Additional information can be obtained through the Dragonfly Gallery in Milton at 981-1100 or Sally Miller at 910-0561.
