American Diabetes Association to kickoff Step Out: Walk To Stop Diabetes event

The American Diabetes Association’s Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes Kickoff will he held on Thursday, September 10 at Pensacola Yacht Club from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.  This event is designed to welcome back past participants and introduce those interested in coming together to be part of the Stop Diabetes® movement at the Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes on Saturday, November 7 at Maritime Park, the one-day signature fundraising walk benefiting the American Diabetes Association. Every dollar raised through Step Out plays an important role in supporting the Association’s mission: to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.

“Diabetes is a devastating disease that touches us all,” said Lynne Cranford,  area director of Northwest Florida/South Alabama.  “Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes is such a wonderful event for friends and co-workers to come together and help change the future of diabetes.  The camaraderie and spirit that is enjoyed by participating in this event is priceless.”

Today, there are nearly 30 million children and adults in the United States with diabetes, including over 68,000 in our surrounding counties whohave diabetes. While an estimated 21 million have been diagnosed, unfortunately, 8.1 million people are unaware that they have the disease.  If current trends continue, one in three American adults will have diabetes by 2050.

Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes provides an opportunity for employees, friends and family to come together for a fun, healthy activity.  It’s an event for anyone who wants to support the Association and raise critical funds that will help Stop Diabetes.   By signing up, fundraising and participating in out noncompetitive 5K walk, you will help us be there for everyone in every community touched by diabetes.  Diabetes is a serious disease that has no cure. More people die each year from diabetes than breast cancer and aids combined. So please help us Step Diabetes and sign-up today.
