The West Florida Baptist Academy Lady Conquerors hosted their seventh annual Pre-Season Volleyball Slam this past Friday and Saturday. Six teams competed in pool play on Friday and single elimination bracket play on Saturday: Aletheia Christian Lions (Pensacola), Bayshore Christian Eagles (Fairhope, AL), Calvary Christian Patriots (Ft. Walton Beach, FL), Central Christian Saints (Robertsdale, AL), East Hill Christian Eagles (Pensacola) and West Florida Baptist Conquerors – all members of the Panhandle Christian Conference.
The Lady Patriots defeated the Bayshore Eagles for 3rd place and the Lady Conquerors defeated the Lady Saints in the championship match (25-23, 25-9, 18-25 & 25-23). Ashtyn Kaunitz (Sr.) and Havii Berry (Sr.) were selected for the all-tournament team and Ashtyn was the tournament MVP.
Ashtyn led the Conquerors in Kills (25) and serve percentage (91% with 11 aces). Havii worked on defense with 39 service receptions and 20 digs and added 16 kills of her own. Taylor Lunsford contributed 12 aces and 12 kills while Brittany Lyons defended 35 attacks, 18 serves and recorded 2 blocks with 9 kills.
