Stone family wins Majors Helps contest

Majors Home Improvement (MHI) and United Way Santa Rosa (UWSR) announce winning family for home repair contest, Dawn Stone and family of Milton. According to a press release from MHI, over 450 votes were counted and the Stone family came out on top. The family’s home will receive new windows, doors, and vinyl siding. MHI and UWSR need volunteers to help with installation and landscaping on August 29.

In 2014, MHI in partnership with UWSR launched its community initiative, “Majors Helps,” inviting residents to advocate for others in the community by submitting stories for a family in need. The three finalists received votes through Facebook. MHI President Mike Majors said, “It’s great to see the community stand up and nominate such a deserving family for this project.  We are honored to offer our home improvement expertise to repair their home.”

“We are thrilled to partner with Majors again and to see such a deserving family of community volunteers win this year after enduring some tough times is exactly what this program is all about,” shares Anja Machado, director of marketing and communications of United Way of Santa Rosa.

Stone said, “I’m extremely excited…It’s very humbling, especially the comments made on Facebook.” Stone said she has two boys at Milton High School who have plans to join the military. Jared Stone is a junior and looking to join the Army. His mother said he’s planning to pre-enlist next summer. She added he volunteered last year at the East Milton Elementary School library. Seth is a year younger, she said, and wants to go to college first before joining the Marine Corps. Dawn said Seth received the Take Stock in Children scholarship for tuition last year and will be busy following the guidelines to keep it.
