Preregistration for the Pace 5K and One Mile Fun Run is currently underway online with registered participants guaranteed an event t-shirt should they register by August 21. This 5K event, hosted by the Pace High School Cross Country Booster Club, will benefit both the boys and girls Pace High School cross country teams.
Kelly Kling, the Booster club’s chairperson for the girl’s team, said the proceeds raised from the 5K event will benefit the team by helping with travel expenses and refreshments for the students throughout the track season.
Participants are also encouraged to see the school’s cross country team in action during their first meet, the Fourth Annual Pace Patriot Invitational 5K which will occur at the same location following the fun run beginning at 8:10 a.m.
Both the boys and girls teams will compete against several other teams from area schools.
Kling said the local support shown at the invitational would greatly be appreciated not just by the coaches but the students as well.
“It’s a tough sport,” she said. “The more spectators they have, the better they will do.”
The Patriot 5K will happen early on Saturday, August 29 at Sims Middle School with the 5K beginning at 7 a.m. followed by the one mile fun run at 8 a.m. Registration fees, which can be paid online at Active.com, are $25 for the 5K and $15 for the fun run. According to a flier for the event, same-day cash registration is limited to availability for fun run only.
Both cross country teams will also be hold a Krispy Kreme donuts fundraiser on Saturday from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Raceway gas station at 3576 Highway U.S. 90 at the intersection of Woodbine Road and Hwy. 90.
