Like many of the varsity football teams in Santa RosaCounty, the Milton High School Panthers are making necessary preparations for the upcoming football season.
Chafan Marsh, the MHS head football coach, said he's liked what he’s seen so far from both the junior varsity and varsity players.
“We got a good attitude; the kids are working hard,” Marsh said. “We got a good mix of older kids with a lot of younger kids.”
Although he likes the team’s mentality and work ethic, Marsh said there is still a lot of work ahead.
“We got to keep working and keep pushing,” he said. “They are a little sore, but we don’t care; we got to keep pushing because that is what we got to do.”
Out of the 100 students on the practice field this week, Marsh said the team is looking to address the team’s inexperience on both sides of the ball.
“We got a lot of inexperience on defense, we got to get them ready also on offense,” Marsh said.
Marsh said the team has nearly 25 senior classman for the incoming players to gain experience from.
One of those players, is Kobi Floyd, who is expected to play wide receiver and backup quarterback for the team in his senior year.
“Everyone is paying attention and doing what they are supposed to do,” he said. “I think we are going to be pretty good this year.”
The Panthers are scheduled to play W.S.NealHigh School at home on Thursday, August 20 in the school’s Kick-Off Classic. The team will then face Washington High School the following week on August 28.
