The Santa Rosa County School District recently announced both Milton High School and the Santa Rosa Virtual Franchise both received a Bronze medal status in the 2015 Best High Schools report presented by US News & World Reports.
By receiving the Bronze medal status, both educational entities are ranked in the top 30 percent of all high schools nationwide, the press release said. The school district said the recognition is based upon math and reading proficiency, college readiness and student to teacher ratio.
According to the usnews.com, the rankings include data on more than 21,000 public high schools across the United States, including the District of Columbia. Schools were awarded a medal status gold, silver or bronze based upon their performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college.
U.S. News nationally ranked the 6,517 highest-scoring schools as gold, silver or bronze depending on their College Readiness Index. According to the U.S. News website, a high school needed to perform at the CRI level of 19.42 or above in order to receive a silver medal status. Milton High School for example, received a CRI of 11.1.
Gold medal schools with the highest unrounded CRI values were numerically ranked from number one to number 500. Fourteen gold medal high schools achieved the maximum CRI value of 100, according to the U.S. News website.
The members of the Santa Rosa County School Board are proud of what both the virtual franchise and Milton High School accomplished.
“Both awards have resulted from the hard work and dedication of the administration, teachers, students, parents and community member involved with each school we congratulate them for their accomplishments.” the press release said.
