According to the Florida Department of Transportation, construction activities are set to begin this week on a right turning lane on State Road 87, or Stewart Street in Milton, connecting to County Road 191, or Munson Highway.
The project will include curb and gutter construction, sidewalk installation, drainage improvements, signing and striping, according to the FDOT.
FDOT officials said motorists can expect intermittent and alternating lane restrictions to occur. However, there will be no lane closures Monday through Friday during school periods from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. FDOT reminds motorists to use caution and obey the posted speed limit when traveling through the work area.
Construction on the turning lane went on hold after the project went into default, according to FDOT spokesperson Tanya Branton. The contracting company tasked with completing the project did not comply with contract obligations due to financial issues.
Branton said the project initially began in November of last year on a contract worth $147, 084.23.
Although inclement weather could prolong a completion date, FDOT anticipates having the project completed in one month.
