According to a report from the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrested 21-year-old Gulf Breeze resident, Nicholas Castanon Monday morning on eight counts of felony burglary and eight counts of misdemeanor theft related to a string of recent vehicle burglaries in the area of Redwood Lane.
Deputies executed a search warrant, Monday, around 8:30 a.m. at an address on Redwood Lane in the process of following an investigation of witness leads in the case. The report said the search warrant produced multiple items reported stolen in recent burglaries in the area and connected Castanon to approximately 10 other vehicle burglaries. Items recovered included radios, purses, wallets, credit cards, GPS units, and cameras, which deputies returned to the rightful owners.
According to the arrest report, Castanon at first demanded deputies have a search warrant if they wanted to come into his apartment. While waiting for the warrant, an unnamed person talked Castanon out of his apartment whereupon a deputy handcuffed him and he said he was sorry for what he had done. After hearing his Miranda warning he said he understood but wouldn’t answer any questions and asked for his lawyer. However, when another detective arrived on scene and spoke with Castanon, the suspect agreed to escort deputies into his apartment and point out all of the stolen items.
Castanon remains in Santa Rosa County Jail on $40,000 bond. Deputies noted all of the vehicles burglarized were unlocked at the time of the crime.
