Youth basketball camp this month

Boys and girls ages 6 to 14 have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of basketball at the Milton Panther Basketball Camp from July 20 to July 23. Call 983-5600 for more details.

Running from July 20 through July 23, both boys and girls, ages 6 to 14 have the opportunity to attend the Milton Panther Basketball Camp held at Milton High School. Coach Kris Long said, “The purpose of the camp is to teach the kids the fundamentals of the game.”

The cost for camp is either $65 or $75. While both cover the cost of the t-shirt, ice cream party, instruction, and games, the $75 Championship package comes with a ball while the $65 All-Star packages does not.

Due to the wide range of ages attending, Long said, “We split them up by age groups when they play against each other. We have a 5 on 5 competition, 3 on 3 competition, and a free throw competition where they get prizes for winning.” Long also said, “Everyday we do a contest where kids get to ask the coaches any basketball question at the end of camp if the coaches don't get it right they win a prize if the coaches do get it right they have to do pushups.”

Hank Hullet, MHS boys’ head coach, and Murry Rutledge, MHS athletic director will run the camp. Long said Keith Cone, girls’ head coach, Derek Freeman, girls’ junior varsity coach, and Maurice “Zoom” Thomas, boys’ ninth grade coach will all be working the camp, according to Long.

Call 983-5600 to sign up. Students can sign up as late as the day of camp, according to Long.
