Several new artists at the Dragonfly Gallery will display their art in the show “Art from the Heart” beginning July 6 through Aug. 3. A reception will be held Friday, July 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. at 6815 Caroline Street, Milton. New artists include Kathy Adkison, Ellen Atchison, Bill DuBois, Mitzi Dubois, Jean Schuler and Brenda Wood. Artists will be available at the meet and greet.

Kathy Adkison

Kathy Adkison is an emerging watercolor artist who received her BABS degree from the University of West Florida in Business Management.  A native of Northwest Florida, she has lived in central Florida, California and North Carolina.  She liked to draw as a child and loved the history of art in her college but is mainly self-taught as an artist.  Kathy did not fully realize her passion until she began experimenting with painting the last 10 years with friends. Her inspiration is the nature of the South.

Ellen Atchison

Naturally creative since childhood, Ellen Atchison began to explore art in the 1980's under the tutelage of famed local artist Linda Geiger.  After working in a variety of mediums she feels oils and pastels are most reflective of her skill level and interest.  Her strength and skills in these mediums has grown since becoming affiliated and became a juried member of the Santa Rosa Arts and Cultural Foundation.

Mitzi DuBois

Several years ago a neighbor invited Mitzi to her house for a bead class. It was a slippery slope. She has since become a passionate beader and jewelry artist. She still looking for a great way to store the millions of beads she has since acquired.

Bill DuBois

Always fascinated by watercolors, Bill began painting following his retirement from a military career. While working a wide range of subject interests, he strives to use the transparency of watercolor to capture mood and atmosphere

Jean Schuler

Jean Schuler utilizes her passion for watercolor using the technique of glazing and layering to achieve brilliant color, all the while letting the white of the paper shine through. Jean loves painting flowers because no matter what season something is always in bloom.  She has a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts Design from LSU. Her artwork is also displayed in New Orleans.

Brenda Wood

Painting gourds is Brenda Wood’s first artistic attempt. With two degrees in agriculture it seems logical her canvas would be a farming product. The many shapes and sizes of gourds and diversity of varieties draw her to their uniqueness. Since each gourd is distinctive in nature, and each gourd creation is painted or wood-burned with its own special design, no two pieces are ever the same.
