While July may be National Blueberry Month, the gulf coast celebrates the handpicked delight this month with the June 20 Alabama Blueberry Festival in downtown Brewton and the ARC of the Emerald Coast: Santa Rosa’s 6th Annual Blueberry Bash a week later June 27.
Brewton’s Alabama Blueberry Festival this year features homemade blueberry foods including blueberry ice cream made especially for the festival and a wide variety of sandwiches. There will also be arts and crafts available as well as cookbooks, blueberry bushes, and creates of fresh blueberries, blueberry t-shirts, free children’s games and activities, live entertainment all day, and an antique car show. There is no admission or charge for the event. For more information, call Judy Crane or Debi Pugh at the Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce at (251) 867-3224.
The ARC of the Emerald Coast will host this year’s Blueberry Bash in Milton at 6225 Dixie Road. According to Skyler Richards, administrative assistant at the ARC, there will be a car show, around 20 kid and family events, games, prizes, and live entertainment, and of course blueberry picking. She said the blueberry bushes are full of red ones right now but by June 27, they’ll be ready for their big event. Note also the ARC Gulf Coast is a nonprofit organization supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families with the aim of encouraging self-determination and self-advocacy.
