Pace doctor pleads guilty to tax fraud

Dr. Sheila Mohammed, 55, of Pace pled guilty to seven counts of submitting false tax returns Wednesday, according to a press release from the office of Pamela C. Marsh, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida.

During her plea, Mohammed admitted she signed and caused to be filed false personal tax returns grossly underreporting her total income for tax years 2010 through 2013.  In addition, she admitted as president and owner of The Industrial Medicine Institute, Inc., a medical practice in Pace, she signed and caused to be filed, false corporate tax returns for the business, for the years 2010 through 2012.

According to the release, Mohammed owes $255,158 for her crime and has agreed to make full restitution to the Internal Revenue Service. In addition to this amount, she faces maximum penalties of 21 years in prison, three years for each count, and a $700,000 fine, $100,000 for each count. Chief United States District Court Judge M. Casey Rodgers scheduled sentencing for July 20, at 1:00 p.m. 

The charges are the result of an investigation by the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation, with assistance from the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office.  Assistant United States Attorney Tiffany H. Eggers is prosecuting the case.
