Milton resident Gregory Omar Johnson, 30, faces a maximum of 40 years after a Santa Rosa County jury convicted him of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and child abuse on Thursday, according to a press release from State Attorney Bill Eddins office. Johnson already faces 35 years in prison after his February conviction for aggravated battery on a person aged 65 years or older with a deadly weapon and throwing a deadly missile into a occupied vehicle, the press release said.
Johnson is expected to appear before Circuit Judge John Miller for his second sentencing on June 9th for an incident which occurred in January of last year.
According to the press release, Johnson was convicted after a stabbing incident involving Barbara Baggett. During an argument on Palomino Drive in Milton, Johnson stabbed Baggett who was in the driver’s seat of a vehicle at the time. While behind the wheel, Baggett put the vehicle in reverse to get away from Johnson. Baggett then crashed the vehicle through a neighbor’s fence and hit a tree.
According to the press release, Johnson was hanging outside the passenger-side window while attempting to stab Baggett. When the vehicle came to a stop, Johnson fled the scene. Baggett’s one-year-old daughter was in the back seat of the vehicle during the incident, the press release said.
Baggett was transported to a nearby hospital and treated for injuries, after deputies from the Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office and EMS first responders arrived on scene.
