The Santa Rosa Sheriff's Office reports a scam happening in SRC via fraudulent calls being made to citizens. Public Information Officer Rich Aloy said the scam began several months ago, the SRSO still receives calls wanting to know whether or not it is real.
Aloy said the scam is an individual calling a citizen in Santa Rosa County. During the opening of the conversation the suspect identifies himself as a deputy with the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office. The suspect then tells the citizen a warrant is out for their arrest. They are then told they can take care of the warrant over the phone or by making a payment by mail. The callers have been aggressive and confident with the subject matter.
"The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office does not make any solicitation phone calls to citizens. We do not make phone calls involving warrants or any payments whatsoever. Anyone receiving these calls is urged to NOT make any payments. Inquiries about warrants should be directed to Sheriff’s Office personnel. The only communication you may receive from the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office is mailers stating you have a warrant and to turn yourself in," said Aloy.
