Navarre teen killed in Jackson County traffic incident

Navarre resident Cherylynn Monno, 16, was fatally injured following a traffic incident on Sunday night in Jackson County, according to a press release from the Florida Highway Patrol.

Monno’s vehicle was traveling south on U.S. Highway 231 when her vehicle began to hydroplane on the wet road surface, FHP reports. The 2006 Hyundai Tuscan hydroplaned into the median and subsequently into the northbound lane of same roadway, causing a collision with a 2001 Dodge Ram traveling in the northbound lane at that moment.

In the FHP report, Monno’s vehicle was struck on the right side by the northbound vehicle driven by Alabama resident Justin Perkins. Both Justin Perkins and his passenger Stephanie Perkins received minor injuries from the collison.

FHP is still investigating the incident.
