MHS gets new principal

Surrounded by loved ones, Tim Short gathers for a photo outside the Santa Rosa County School District building in Milton after being announced as the new principal of Milton High School at this monthÂ’s school board meeting. On ShortÂ’s left is his son, Trent followed by girlfriend Kelly Allen and her son Drew Allen.

During Tuesday’s Santa Rosa County School Board meeting, the school board voted in favor several new administrative roles including new Milton High School Principal Tim Short.

Short, who served as the assistant principal of Navarre High School, has worked in the school district since 1988.  Short served as a math teacher, basketball and football coach at both Milton and Pace high schools.  Short said he is very familiar with MHS after working at the school for 15 years.

“I feel like I am familiar with the community with a lot of the teachers and staff that are there,” Short said. “I think the transition is going to be easier than going into a place that you know nothing about, just because of the familiarity with a lot of the people there.”

Short, who lives in Pace, said he looks forward to picking up where former MHS Principal Michael Thorpe left off.

Thorpe is leaving MHS in April after accepting a new position with the school district as the director of the Professional Development Center.

Short was one of several new administrative positions approved by school board with the recommendation from  Superintendent Tim Wyrosdick.

April Martin will leave her post as the principal of  S.S. Dixon Intermediate School in Pace to become the school district’s new Director of Elementary Education effective on March 11.

Joshua McGrew will be promoted from assistant principal to principal of Oriole Beach Elementary School in Gulf Breeze.  Beth Mosley will become the new principal of Holley Navarre Intermediate School after previously serving as an assistant principal at the school.
