Saturday, the internationally renowned obstacle course, Tough Mudder kicked off its 2015 season in Santa Rosa County, at the Ates family property in East Milton. Competitors came from California, Tennessee, and even as far as Canada to crawl through mud, climb over walls, and slide into ice water for 11.3 miles. The new event, Cry Baby, and long-time favorite, Electro Shock, also tested participants’ stamina in tear gas and electric shocks.

Austin Hubbard of Fort Walton Beach spent his 22nd birthday enduring the obstacle course. Hubbard, who works on Hurlburt Field, said he was more than relieved to finish the course.
“It feels great, I am ready to have a beer,” Hubbard said.
Hubbard said enduring the challenging course was manageable while running alongside friends and co-workers.
“It’s all about teamwork,” he said. “We would stop and help each other. It’s not too hard when you have people helping you.”
While Hubbard participated others attended to show thier support, like Mary Campbell who served as a "cheerleader" for her husband Adam.
The couple traveled to Milton from Mobile, Ala. Mary said she wasn’t expecting to see such a big event with a large turnout.
“I didn’t know there would be so many people,” she said.
When asked if she would consider participating in the event alongside her husband in a future Tough Mudder event. Campbell said she would consider it if the weather outside was a bit warmer.
Campbell also said she anticipates her husband enduring Tough Mudder next year.
