Murder suspect caught

  Deputies with the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office apprehended a suspect near Munson Highway who is wanted in New Orleans for a double murder, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.

  Dwayne Martin, 25, was arrested by deputies after allegedly attempting to break into a residence off Munson Hwy. According to his arrest report, Martin was confronted by the resident in attempting to enter their occupied household.

When the resident confronted Martin about what he was doing, Martin said he needed some gas. According to the report, Martin had a hammer in his hand at the time.  The home owner told Martin he needed to leave and grabbed the hammer from Martin, who then fled from the residence.

While attempting to flee, Martin reportedly tried to start a four-wheeler outside the residence, reports said. After the resident yelled at Martin to leave, he then fled on foot to a neighboring yard.

Shortly after the confrontation, deputies were contacted and quickly arrived on scene. Reports said multiple units arrived and set up a parameter. A K-9 unit brought in to locate Martin found the suspect standing near a house talking on a cell phone, the report said. When the officer in the K-9 unit ordered Martin to stop, Martin then began to run into a nearby wooded area.

Martin then exited the wooded area where deputies were already on scene. Martin was apprehended without incident, the report said.

In addition to the homicide incident in New Orleans, Martin is also facing charges of burglary and resisting an officer without violence.  Martin was transported to the Santa Rosa County Jail.  

Martin is wanted as a suspect in a triple shooting incident which left a mother, Walesha Williams, and her 8-year-old daughter, Paris Williams, dead Tuesday, according to an article from the New Orleans Times-Picayune website NOLA.com.

According to NOLA.com, a 39-year-old woman was shot multiple times in the incident and survived by playing deceased. New Orleans police have not identified the woman.

Polie identified Martin as a shooting suspect after he was identified as by witnesses in a photographic lineup. Police announced Martin as a suspect on Wednesday.

In the online article, Martin was identified as Walesha William’s boyfriend.

The article also states Martin had four other arrests in New Orleans stemming back to 2008, regarding incidents of burglary and theft, battery, resisting an officer with force, battery of a police officer and simple escape.  The most recent  arrest occurred in August of 2013, when Martin was booked with felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile, court records show prosecutors refused that charge one month later, NOLA.com reports.
