Dear Editor,
The government directed monopolistic trash contract with ECUA continues to be troublesome and in many cases ECUA continues to be a safety hazard to drivers. At my house we place the trash can in our driveway and ECUA leaves the can in the roadway; because there is no space for the can on the side of the road ECUA wants them on. Our road is 16ft wide with no designed shoulder nor sidewalk. Our driveway is the only safe place for traffic and personnel.
This County wide contract has been forced on the citizens of Santa Rosa County by the Board of County Commissioners, it has eliminated open competition by establishing a government directed monopoly and worst of all funnels hundreds of thousands of dollars out of Santa Rosa County and into Escambia County. Please correct me if I am wrong, but shouldn't the BOCC be focused on county business, road and transportation issues, fostering the growth and influx of businesses within our county?
What I would like: 1) Cancel this contract. I want to maintain the ability to hold vendors responsible; to hire and fire, choose change as I see fit. 2) I want an equal opportunity for businesses north of I-10. 3) I want to keep the BOCC and government in general out of my daily business dealing, my living room and my driveway.
Dictatorial Government is immoral and unconstitutional. If we cannot fire the vendor we will be forced to fire those whose signed and enforce the contract (BOCC).
