'Medical emergency' causes vehicle collision in Pace parking lot

It was a medical emergency which caused a Jay resident to lose control of his vehicle and collide with three unoccupied parked vehicles in Pace on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to a FHP media release, Charles Raughton, 63, was driving northbound in the parking lot near the Raceway convenience store on the corner of Woodbine Road and U.S. Highway 90 when a unspecified medical emergency occurred causing Raughton to lose control of his vehicle.

In the press release, Raughton’s vehicle struck three unoccupied parked vehicles in the parking lot before coming to a stop when colliding with a fourth parked vehicle.  

Raugthon, who was listed in critical condition following the incident, was transported to West Florida Hospital for treatment.
