The Emerald Coast Convention Center saw a sold out crowd of about 1,500 as mixed martial artists went head to head Friday night. In Caged Combat 5’s 17 fights, sponsored by Vapor Planet, two local fighters, Jarred McConnell and Clay Witt came away with a loss and a win respectively.

McConnell, who trains with Team Remedy, did not have enough to best his opponent, Devin Hall. “The fight unfortunately did not go my way. I got submitted at the end of the first round.” While not sure on his availability, McConnell said he’s going to attempt to fight in Caged Combat’s next event coming May 22.

Witt, from Navarre, who trains at the Capitao Jiu-Jitsu and MMA school came away with the fist raised. He said, “This was one of my more difficult fights, (Terryn) Williams was extremely athletic and explosive right off the start. He clipped me in the first minute and stumbled me but I was able to recover and take him down, ultimately submitting him with a guillotine in the first round.” Witt said this fight was his third win with no losses. As far as May 22, he said, “I'm taking a week off to rest but after that I'll be back on the daily grind preparing for that fight.”

One of CC’s managers, Keith Wood, could not be happier with Friday’s event and already announced Sunday tickets for Caged Combat 6 will be on sale soon. He also said, “We are about to make a huge announcement for that show.” Stay tuned to see who may show at the next fight on the coast.
