Speak Out: February 4

Thursday 12:06 p.m.

This is Matthew from Pace. I just want to call and say I am thankful for the sidewalks they installed around Spencer Field. I just got back from a run around it. Moving from Virginia, I miss the outdoor track, I used run around a nearby school. It’s just nice to see people improving their health by walking, running, biking and skating on it. Thank you.

Yes I am calling about the melee that they had over in American Farms between four people and a dog and I am calling in favor of the dog. The dog was protecting its owner and its domain. Nobody should carry on like that . They were probably on drugs and alcohol also. I think he should have be arrested and the rest of them be arrested for physical violence and interrupting the peace. So I hope that is done. That poor dog suffered. You know dog and kids are sensitive to yelling, screaming and cussing, pushing around, stuff like that. Grown adults should not be doing that type of behavior. Thank you.

Thursday 6:51 p.m.

Hello, this is Kevin and I live on Lakewood Drive. This is for Bobby that wrote in about Locklin Lake. I have lived close to this lake for over 45 years. He said they charged a fee to get in there, which I have never heard of that and they took care of it. Now they don’t want anyone in the lake, because it is so polluted. We love that lake but I tell you it has just gone downhill. It’s just so polluted, that’s why nobody goes in there anymore.  I tell you there are a lot of holes in bobby’s story. That is just how I feel about it. Thank you

Yes this is concerning the article in Press Gazette on Saturday, January 24th.  I’m saying hooray for Mayor Meiss, if he does go through with sending out a notice with having a meeting about the lake, Locklin Lake. I have gone to the city manager, my daughter has gone to the city manager and this has been over the past two to three to 45 years. I have lived here for the past 40 years and yes the lake is nothing like it was and it is a sight. It flows this way and into a corner by my property. It collects any kind of trash, you can possibly think of from  big tree limbs to  bag of potato chips. So anyway the growth is awful. We tried the carp before. I don’t know what happen to our homeowners association, but there are a lot of retired people in our area and I suspect that is what happened and a lot of people moved out and a lot of new people moved in, so a lot of people didn’t even know about it. I have been here for 40 years and I am thrilled that he is going to do something about it. I hope he does follow through and he doesn’t fail us like the city manager. Thank you very much. My name is Char. Goodbye.

Friday 7:28 p.m.

My name is Cathy. I just got through reading the article about Mayor Wesley Meiss about the conditions of Locklin Lake.  My parents bought this house only 40 years ago. It was beautiful when we moved in. It has deteriorated over the years. And a year ago I started having some health issues or possible health issues. I called the city and I didn’t get anything, I couldn’t get anywhere. Anyway, my parents were of course part of the homeowners association. So I am glad to see that the mayor is planning to do something about it. I am looking forward to getting a notice in the mail about when we can all meet with him and get it done. Like I said 40 years ago this place was beautiful, not anymore.

Saturday 4:07 p.m.

Yeah this is Ron. I see where the ECUA has taken over the garbage. In the past two weeks there has been more garbage on Munson Highway going into town than there has been in the last five years of all of the other carriers together. They need to get a crew out there and clean that area up from the east gate road all the way into town. There is so much garbage on the road. Thank you.

Sunday 1:18 p.m.

I am a near 80-year-old, American born, patriotic,  Korean War, Marine Corps veteran. I love this USA and the freedom we have. So I put my life on the line and I agreed and did everything my country asked me to do. I was injured and exposed to chemicals that have made me a total invalid. Of all my years, near 80, the hardest battle I have ever fought  is with veteran’s affairs. They have made me feel like all of us veterans are misfits, bums, liars and worse. Irritated that we survived. They have not kept their promise to us.  I don’t know what planet these decision makers on the VA decision board came from. I can guarantee that they are not veterans and they are not even like veterans. Some of us have applied for years and years for compensation, we were promised. I believe they are waiting for us old veterans to die off, so they won’t have to give us anything. Seems like very few people anymore care about us. If I had to do it all over again, I would have stayed on the farm. Thank you.
