Santa Rosa Christian School, a private Christian Day School located in Milton, is participating in this week’s National School Choice Week by offering a special event on Friday.
Beginning at 5 p.m., pre-kindergarten through 12th grade will offer an open house to the community which will include a spaghetti dinner.
School representative Tod Brainard said this is the second year the school celebrated the national event by inviting the public to see what educational options are available at the school.
“We had about 350 people that came out for it,” he said.
In addition to taking part in the school’s Bible Fair and bake sale, attendees can also see the school’s Remote Operating Vehicles, or ROV Club in action. The ROV Club, which operates unmanned vehicles underwater, often travels to compete in out-of-state competitions, Brainard said.
SRCS is one of 9,000 schools participating in the national event, according to a press release. The goal is to shine a positive spotlight on all types of educational options available to area families.
“Participants in National School Choice believe that parents should be empowered to choose the best educational environments for their children,” the NSCW website states. “Supporters plan events that highlight a variety of school choice options — from traditional public schools to public charter schools, magnet schools, private schools, online learning, and homeschooling.”
The website also states that many elected officials, including mayors and governors have issued proclamations across the country in order recognize this weeklong event, happening from January 25 through 31.
“We are excited to have SRCS participate in National School Choice Week with this special event,” said Andrew Campanella, the NSCW president. “It is because of great events like this that National School Choice Week, in Florida and across the country, will break records as the largest and most influential celebration of the educational opportunity in American history.”
