Santa Rosa Christian Academy Eagles visited West Florida Baptist Academy Conquerors for Thursday night basketball. The night began with a pair of lopsided victories for each school, followed by an exciting varsity boys finale.
The Junior Varsity Boys started the evening with a 42 to 7 Eagles victory. James Adams led SRCA with 13 points and the Conqueror's Colton Kaunitz finished with 3.
The Lady Conquerors responded, shutting out the Lady Eagles with a 54 to 0 win. Esther Burdick led the Lady Conquerors with 14 points. Also in double digit scoring were Ashtyn Kaunitz with 11 points as well as 11 rebounds and 8 assists, and Kristen Glass with 10 points.
In the varsity boys finale the Conquerors began strong, then fended off an Eagles' rally to win 44 to 36. The Conqueror lead was 10 at the end of the 1st quarter (14-4), 8 at halftime (22-14) and 9 at the end of the 3rd (35-26). Halfway through the 4th quarter, however, the Eagles trimmed the lead to 2. Timely Conqueror free throw shooting extended their lead in the final seconds to seal the victory. Leading scorers were Jon Brainard (12 points) for the Eagles and Cade Kaunitz (23 points, 17 rebounds) for the Conquerors.
