Gulf Breeze man faces strangulation, imprisonment charges

Gulf Breeze resident Jon Rockland English, 28, is facing multiple charges of battery and false imprisonment after being booked into the Santa Rosa County Jail on Friday.

According to his arrest report, English was sought by a warrant for felony battery by strangulation, aggravated battery and false imprisonment following an incident which occurred on Sept. 16.

In English’s arrest report with the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office, an deputy responded to a call at the Gulf Breeze Hospital in reference to a domestic disturbance which had occurred the night before.

The deputy spoke with the victim, who was being treated by the hospital’s medical staff for injuries. The deputy reported observing  scratches and bruising on the victim’s face, forearms and legs. The report states the victim “was too shaken to write” a witness statement.

With assistance, the victim states the incident occurred when English called the victim several derogatory and vulgar names. The incident then escalated, when English got into the victim’s face and “became even more verbally abusive,” the report said.

As the victim tried to leave, English then pushed the individual away from the door then hitting the victim in the mouth and nose causing both to bleed. English then began to choke the victim on several occasions in the incident. In addition to the choking, English also left bruising on both of the victim’s wrists and a scratch on the victim's knee from the incident, according to the report.

The victim was unaware of what caused the altercation, the report said.

According to the arrest report, the domestic violence continued the next day on Sept. 17. The victims states English became abusive once again, when the victim asked  English “Why did that even happen?”  English then got into the victim’s face and grabbed their nose, which was still sore from the earlier incident. In the report, English told the victim, that if he wanted to hurt the victim, “it would have been much worse than (English) did already.”

During this incident,  the victim told the deputy the door was open and asked English to leave. However, English would then close the door and try to intimidate the victim, the report said. In this incident, English also threaten to kill the victim while grabbing the individual and pushing them against the wall, banging the thier head against the wall several times. Biting and choking were also reported in this incident. The victim said she grabbed English’s dreadlock and bit him in self defense.

English remains in Santa Rosa County Jail without bond.
