After 24 years, Marcus Pointe announced in 2014 they would be closing their doors. This came around the time Stonebrook Golf Club, and its director of golf, Hiram Cook, celebrated 25 years in the golf community. However, Stonebrook’s management team announced they opened Marcus Pointe’s doors and golf course Monday. Robin Dezarn, club manager, said, “We had quite a few folks come out and join and play golf. We had people starting at 7 o’clock.”
Dezarn said those who become members at one of the three Stonebrook locations have access to all of them. She said, “People have been pretty excited to go play two well maintained golf courses not too far apart from each other. I think that the golf community in this area is really reenergized with having three courses.”
Cook said managing three courses will provide Northwest Florida’s golf community with better course conditions at a consistent price. In addition to Marcus Pointe Golf Club in Pensacola and Stonebrook Golf Club in Pace, Tanglewood Golf Club in Milton rounds out the three choices now open to area golfers with one membership as low as $130 a month with the first month free, according to Cook.
Speaking of adding a foothold in the neighboring county, Dezarn said, “There’s a larger population base over here in Pensacola. It just provides more opportunity to grow. We've been signing people up the last couple of days. We've had a great response.” She said with courses available across the two counties, more players are joining in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties.
With the growth of golf in sight, Dezarn said tournament opportunities will remain to be seen. There’s a lot of opportunity, she said, at all courses.
Stonebrook Village LTD staff also notes Marcus Pointe is hiring full and part-time employees in the pro-shop, cart barn, maintenance, and grill. Dezarn said Marcus Pointe is still taking applications and encouraging people to apply. Call Robin Dezarn at 484-9770 about employment opportunities.
Those new members may also be interested in Stonebrook’s Winter Classic Tournament coming up on Saturday, January 17. Cost of the tournament is $20 for members, $30 for guests. Call 994-7171 to sign up.
