Dear Editor,
I am making a comment on the ECUA North End Waste Collection Service franchise agreement. This is not a good thing. I have talked to many residents and no one was aware that we would not have a choice in which waste company we could have to pick up our garbage. I was told by one of our county commissioners that this franchise had been discussed for two years and residents were aware through town hall meetings, newspapers and radio. I feel blind sided by this action and would never agree to a monopoly. What has happened to free choices and the free market where one decides for him/herself? Having competition among companies will keep one from gouging the consumer. This is a raw deal and I hate having it forced down my throat. A candid vote from all of us would have been the best way for the commissioners to handle this. We now have a monopoly and you will see the fees increase and there is nothing we can do. What is happening to our country? Government Control is not the answer. We need to find out whose idea this was and vote him/her out of office. I didn't fight for this country to become a socialist country and something like this puts us one more step toward socialism.
