Now I’m at the end of the Christmas season and looking forward to New Year’s Day, I am thinking of doing some de-cluttering and organizing my home again. Better yet, re-structuring some things in my head helps with stress.
Stress can lead to both health issues and take away joy. Simplifying my life is essential to keep up with a busy schedule. Since hanging up my apron to work at SRPG, I’ve found these simple tips help me cope with a busy schedule and dealing with day-to-day stress.
· Know who you are and what makes you happy.
I’m an extroverted personality. I need to be around people and be able to think out loud with someone I trust. Being my husband is primarily an introvert, he knows when I haven’t spoken with anyone all day because I talk to him for hours.
· Sing and dance
Spontaneous singing and dancing does take away stress. At least it does for me. After a long day at work, a five minute dance out takes away the kinks and brings a smile to my face. This is something our family does. We’ve often said our family lives inside of a musical because we break out into song so often. I’ve also been known to do this in my office at work, much to my co-worker’s surprise, when needed.
· Exercise
On the same note, exercise is a tool to be used for stress de-toxification. Walking, hiking, cycling, jogging, is excellent for improving a mood. Just make sure your heart rate increases to produce the necessary endorphins. Plus, just being outside with fresh air and vitamin D helps your attitude.
· Take a vacation day
Taking a day off from daily responsibilities, when you can, is a way to set things aside and just be yourself. Letting some chores go for a day or two can also help with stress.
· Take vitamins
Supplemental vitamins are also needed in life, what with our food supply not being what it used to be. Do some homework to see what is important for your body.
· Most importantly, pray
If you’re a religious person, and I am, prayer places those worries on the shoulders of God. He says to do this everyday. Conversations with God keeps things in perspective, which keeps you healthy. The Bible says His word is health to our bones.
The Christmas holidays are a wonderful time to be with family, gift giving and being creative in the kitchen with sugar and flour. However, trying to make the holiday perfect for everyone will not only sour your disposition but bring about stress for everyone else. Now the holidays are almost over, take some time and think about the coming year. Set some goals, plan your upcoming vacation, and keep a positive attitude. 2015 is going to be a great year. Happy New Year!
