Local chiropractor offers multifaceted approach to wellness care

Dr. Michael C. Brooks has been in business in the Milton and Pace area since 1980. He offers natural healthcare methods while continuously increasing and refining his techniques.

Dr. Michael C. Brooks started his business in Pea Ridge, he said, in 1980 and in those 34 years he’s spent his time cultivating positive relationships with the medical community and continually developing his own base of medical understanding. Brooks said much of his chiropractic work centers on the spine, but he can make adjustments from head to foot. Patients with Medicare and Medicaid are also welcome, according to Brooks.

Brooks said there is no age restriction for chiropractic care. He said he’s worked on patients from 2 days old to 104 years old. Adjusting babies, he said, is different and he’s had success in treating colic. Brooks said he sees teenagers, too. Currently, he said, he’s treating a couple high school cheerleaders and in the past was the sports medic for Century High School. He said coaches are starting to recommend chiropractic care as part of players’ general good health.

Brooks said, “I like to work as a team with medical doctors. Specialists work as a team; I’d like to see that with chiropractors and medical doctors. Nobody can fix everything.” He said he’s referred patients over the years to doctors when patient needs fall outside of his range and has also received referrals from doctors he’s never met. Brooks spoke of a patient in her 20s who was on about 20 different medications. He said he referred her to a doctor who would work to reduce the amount of her meds. Brooks said he saw her again about 4 years later and she was off all of her medication and felt much better.

At the same time, Brooks said, “Sometimes drugs are necessary.” However, Brooks also advocates supplements and nutritional understanding.

Nutritional education is only part of Brooks’ arsenal. He said he’s also certified in acupuncture, physiotherapy, including ultrasound and mineral infrared therapy, and homeopathy. Brooks also said he can also advise the right supplements through muscle testing.

“I’m not just limited to neuromusculoskeletal,” he said.

Colic is not the only ailment Brooks said he’s successfully treated not obviously related to the spine or extremities. He told of one patient who came to him with shoulder and mid back problems who also happened to have digestive trouble. According to Brooks, his adjustments not only cleared up the shoulder and back pain but also improved digestion. Additionally, Brooks said he’s fought well against problems with vision, hearing, sinuses, headaches, and the stomach through chiropractic care and/or supplements. Brooks said, “We’re here to achieve high levels of wellness.”
