This past weekend, West Florida Baptist Academy (WFBA) Conquerors, hosted their 7th annual Conqueror Classic. The Conqueror Classic is an eight team, double elimination boy’s basketball tournament. Participating teams were Northside Christian Louisville, KY; Berean Christian, Jacksonville, FL; Oak Level Baptist, Stokesdale, NC; Grace Christian, Columbus, GA; Atmore Christian, East Hill Christian and Santa Rosa Christian.
Northside Christian went undefeated to win 1st place defeating Berean Christian 73-56 in the championship game. Aaron Betts, a senior for Northside, won the Tournament MVP with an outstanding performance in the championship game knocking down five threes in the first quarter and seven for the game, finishing with 25 points. He averaged 15 points per game for the tournament.
The Conquerors took home the 3rd place trophy led by Cade Kaunitz, averaging 18 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 steals per game. West Florida’s two seniors, Cade Kaunitz and Ben Lassiter, were voted to the All-Tournament team. The Conquerors, (5-4, 0-0), play their first conference game at home on December 2 against Gateway Academy.
Two games in the Classic came down to the final shot. Facing elimination and down 45 -24 at the start of the 4th quarter, East Hill unleashed a barrage of threes and held Atmore scoreless in the 4th to win 47-45. In another elimination game, Oak Level's shot at the buzzer off an inbound play bounced off the rim to advance WFBA, 59-57.
